Barcelona on alert: Aston Villa ‘determined’ to pay Celta Vigo star’s release clause | OneFootball

Celta Vigo star Óscar Mingueza remains a priority transfer target on the part of Premier League high-flyers Aston Villa this month.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have on Saturday provided an insight into the situation.

The name of defender Mingueza has of course proven a prominent one in the Spanish media headlines throughout January to date.

As much comes with the 25-year-old, in the midst of a superb individual campaign, having piqued the interest of a whole host of clubs across Spain and beyond.

And it is the aforementioned Aston Villa who appear most determined to strike a deal.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo:

‘Óscar Mingueza is Aston Villa’s main target in this winter transfer market. The English club are determined to pay the 20 million euro release clause stipulated for the Celta de Vigo player, according to Matteo Moretto, a football transfer specialist.’

And, in the case of such a deal being struck, Celta Vigo would not be the only ones in line to benefit from a financial standpoint.

As part of the deal which saw Mingueza make the move to Balaídos in the summer of 2022, Barcelona secured a 50% sell-on clause.

This would mean a significant cash injection, potentially in the region of €10 million, coming the way of the Blaugrana for their former defender.
