Spanish football’s two leading clubs have this week been dealt something of a blow on the transfer front.
This comes amid confirmation that Málaga talent Antonio Cordero has made the call to make the move to England, with Newcastle United.
Antoñito, for his part, is an 18-year-old striker, who has long been considered a potential star in the making.
The starlet was the subject of intense interest on the part of Barcelona last summer, with the Camp Nou hierarchy having gone as far as to table an offer for his services.
In the end, as much was rebuffed by Málaga, determined to secure what they felt was market value in return for their crown jewel.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, have also long been credited with a keen interest in Antoñito, whose contract terms with Málaga are due to expire in the summer.
As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media on Tuesday is anything to go by, then the two Clásico rivals have seen their respective pursuits come up short.
As per a report from transfer insider Fabrizio Romano:
‘Newcastle have completed deal to sign Spanish 18-year-old talent Antonio Cordero from Malaga. Announcement set to take place for Cordero to join NUFC project. Barça and Real Madrid were both keen on signing Cordero; he picked Newcastle.’
