Barcelona see 26-year-old Serie A defender as an alternative to Jonathan Tah – Report | OneFootball

However, their aspirations do not stop there. Barcelona reportedly wants to sign a defensive player to the team and add him to the squad for next season. Previously, several reports have linked Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah as a strong candidate to join the Catalan giants.

As time passes, however, his signing looks to have become slightly more complicated. Fortunately for Barcelona, there seem to be some other promising options on the market as well for them to explore.

An alternative to Jonathan Tah

According to Fichajes, one such option could be 26-year-old Serie A defender Jhon Lucumi. Having recently won the Coppa Italia with Bologna over AC Milan, the Colombian defender is enjoying a great season and it is clear to see that he is one of the standout performers over in Italy right now.

With great physicality and reliable technical qualities, Lucumi is a player who would fit the Barcelona system in terms of the profile they currently need. Moreover, beyond just the sporting benefits of signing the 26-year-old defender, there are financial advantages to consider as well.

Currently, the player just has one more year left on his contract with Bologna. That would mean that he could be signed for much cheaper than his actual value if Barcelona play their cards right and if Bologna truly do not wish to lose him for free next summer.

Moreover, at his current age, the player has the perfect mixture of quality and experience to be the right addition to a squad that is competing for titles. Furthermore, the report also suggests that he would be open to a move to Barcelona as it would allow him to join an ambitious side that aims to compete at the highest level in the coming years.
