Rafael Leao has recently found himself under scrutiny at AC Milan. His inconsistent performances in Serie A, coupled with a strained relationship with coach Paulo Fonseca, have made him a player on the move in the transfer market.
This situation has sparked increased speculation, with Barcelona now reportedly showing interest in the Portuguese winger.
Leao’s performance in Milan’s recent clash with Real Madrid, a match Barcelona closely monitored, has certainly boosted his profile. The Portuguese forward was given the starting nod and made an impressive impact, proving his worth on a big stage.
Throughout the match, Leao demonstrated superior speed and power, easily outclassing Madrid’s Lucas Vazquez. His agility and strength were too much for the Madrid full-back to handle, with Vazquez visibly frustrated and unable to cope with his pace and skill.
Even more telling was Real Madrid’s tactical change at half-time, with Federico Valverde no longer entering the game, signalling that Ancelotti had been forced to make adjustments.

While Leao did not score in the match, he was involved in two of Milan’s three goals, showing his importance to the team.
The first goal came from a corner, but it was in the second goal where Leao truly impressed. He used his physicality to shield the ball, turn inside the penalty area, and take a shot that was only narrowly saved by Andriy Lunin.
Alvaro Morata, however, was quick to pounce on the rebound and score. In Milan’s third goal, Leao again played a key role, providing an assist to Tijjani Reijnders, who converted without hesitation.
Leao’s performance against Real Madrid made it clear that he is a valuable asset, far superior to the defensive options Madrid had.
This performance will no doubt make Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, take notice, as it is a clear signal to the market that Leao is ready to make an impact at a top club.
