Wycombe Wanderers and Charlton Athletic will meet at Adams Park on Sunday for the first leg of their League One play-off semi-final clash.

The Chairboys have finally made their return to the top six in League One this season, after two previous campaigns that saw the club fall just short with 10th and ninth-placed finishes respectively.

As for Charlton, Nathan Jones has enjoyed a superb campaign in his first full season in charge at The Valley having taken over in February 2024, with his side finishing fourth in the third tier after a 16th-placed finish last term.

Just one point separated the two sides after the curtain fell on the 46-game season, in what looks set to be a tight two-legged affair to determine who goes to Wembley to play for a place in the Championship later this month.

We asked our Charlton Athletic fan pundit, Sam White: 'Honest thoughts - do you think Charlton will get past Wycombe over two legs?'

White said: "Being brutally honest, I think over two legs Charlton can definitely do it.

"The away game is going to be a tough one, but I genuinely think that will probably be a draw. I think Charlton will be happy to go to the away game first leg and play for a draw, on the counter-attack, knowing that they can bring it back a few days later to The Valley in front of what will be 25,000 Charlton fans, and really batter and bruise Wycombe.

"The odds for Charlton fans being in a positive mood is going to be pretty high going into the away game, and arguably going into the home game as well.

"Whereas, I think Wycombe are a bit dejected, they're a bit low, but everything could change and everything could go wrong for Charlton."

Charlton will surely have psychological edge over Wycombe Wanderers after recent thrashing

When it comes to play-off football, gaining any sort of edge over your opponent can be vital to success.

On 21 April, Wycombe and Charlton skirmished at Adams Park on matchday 44 of the League One season, and the Addicks routed the Chairboys with a 4-0 thumping of Mike Dodds' side.

That result proved to be the catalyst for a worrying end to the season for Wanderers, as they would lose their final two games of the season after that, both to fellow play-off sides Leyton Orient and Stockport County respectively.

As such, Charlton will march into Adams Park once again this weekend armed with the knowledge that they can beat the Chairboys on their own patch, and should a similar scoreline follow, they could well already be walking down Wembley Way ahead of next Thursday's second leg at The Valley.
