Santiago Castro has been frequently attached to Inter, which will need to replenish their frontline in the summer, but, while he didn’t slam the door, he voiced his satisfaction with how things have gone for him at Bologna so far in an interview with Il Resto del Carlino.

“It has been a great year. My world has been turned upside down. My life, team, coach, and city changed. I’m very happy to be here. It was the right choice. Four teams wanted me before I moved: Fiorentina, Genoa, and an English one. Two factors made the difference: the possible Champions League qualification and more importantly how the directors made me feel. The human element prevailed.”

Castro addressed the Inter rumors and his future.

“I’m not thinking about it. I can take it as a motivation, but I must focus only on my club and doing well here. The standings and the Coppa Italia are my only fixations. I can’t waste energy on anything else. I don’t know If I’ll stay here long-term. You never know in football. I’m very happy in this town and club. I like it when the fans stop me. It’s truly a great environment. When I started following football, Diego Milito was my idol. Then Velez’ Lucas Pratto. And, obviously, Lautaro Martinez.”

Castro set his personal objective and praised Vincenzo Italiano.

“Lorenzo De Silvestri told me last summer that I should score 12 goals across all competitions. We have a piece of paper in the locker that keeps track of that. The coach is very good. He helped me change my mentality and style and be fiercer. We’ll do great things with him.”
