Eintracht Frankfurt and Manchester City have now reached an agreement in principle over the transfer of Omar Marmoush to the Etihad Stadium, it is being reported.
The two sides have been locked in negotiations for several consecutive days after Manchester City had identified the 25-year-old as their number one attacking transfer target for the ongoing January transfer window.
Developments surrounding the standout Bundesliga attacker so far this season follow two defensive transfer agreements in quick succession, with the Premier League champions expected to finalise documentation signing and medical testing for two players this week.
Abdukodir Khusanov is set to arrive from RC Lens in a €40 million agreement, while Vitor Reis is already in the UK as of Thursday morning ahead of medical tests to complete a £29.5 million switch from Palmeiras.
However, there has been much more delay around the club’s pursuit of Marmoush, who is believed to have reached a verbal agreement with Manchester City officials earlier this month and has been keen to complete a switch now as opposed to the summer.
While there have been clear differences in valuations between the two clubs up until this point, there now appears to have been a significant breakthrough in conversations between the Premier League and Bundesliga clubs.
That is according to the information of RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins, who reports on Thursday afternoon that an agreement in principle has been reached between Manchester City and Eintracht Frankfurt over the transfer of Omar Marmoush to the Etihad Stadium.
It is explained that the final details are currently being discussed between the two clubs to seal a deal, and that the plan is now that the Egyptian international forward does not play in Eintracht Frankfurt’s Bundesliga clash with Borussia Dortmund on Friday night.
Eintracht Frankfurt manager, Dino Toppmöller had only very recently claimed earlier on Thursday that Marmoush was in his places to play in the Bundesliga clash this week, but it appears as though the coach may now be struck with late disruption to those plans
“Omar (Marmoush) will play tomorrow (against Borussia Dortmund), under normal circumstances. He’s in my plans,” Toppmöller told reporters during his pre-match press conference earlier in the day.
As for his managerial counterpart over in Manchester, Pep Guardiola continues to remain tight-lipped on all transfer activity being widely reported across the media, insisting that he would not comment until there is official confirmation on any movements from the club.
As for when Omar Marmoush could undergo a Manchester City medical or make a trip over to the UK for the progressing of a transfer, those details remain unknown at this stage but reports are expected to arrive in the coming hours and days.
