A perfect image was captured during Saturday’s title celebrations when two of the club’s most successful youth academy graduates Callum McGregor and James Forrest proudly showed off the league trophy, the 10th for Callum and 13th for James and together they can boast an incredible 50 major honours and counting between them.

James is of course now the most decorated Celt of all time with 26 and our skipper is not that far behind him on 24. That’s an incredible number between the two of them and further proves that if you are indeed good enough you will make the grade at Celtic football club.

Over a thousand appearances for Celtic between the two modern day legends

Along with the many honours between them they have made over 1000 appearances and are idolised by the supporters and will go down as icons and legends of this illustrious Football club. They both also have made their mark at international level winning over 100 caps for Scotland between them whilst representing their country at a major tournament.

Jamesy even scored a hat-trick for Scotland, not many players can say that.

Our record at producing players capable of making the grade in the first team has been questioned in recent years and rightly so, but James, Callum, and also Tony Ralston and the returning Kieran Tierney for that matter are perfect examples to the youth players of all ages at Celtic football club that they can indeed make their mark at the very top of the game, at both club and international level.

Some look like they could have a chance – Ben Doak, Daniel Kelly and Rocco Vata in recent times and you can now add to that Daniel Cummings – but decided to try their luck elsewhere, giving up their own chance of The Glory and the Dream.

We received a wee message from a reader this morning relevant to this so it’s well worth a mention…

Great to see James end the league season on  a high. Whatever happened to the word player? Everyone is now a Star. I read that young Cummings may be going to West Ham. Headline. “Celtic star spotted at West Ham” Hardly a star since he hasn’t featured for the senior team. Kenny showing promise. Keep scribbling. Adh mor.

Johnny Kenny certainly is showing promise. Hope he has the patience to stay around and fight for his place. If he speaks to the two legends – James Forrest and Callum McGregor – about it they’ll tell him it’s not easy and you have to give 100% every single day, but the rewards are incredible.

The Glory and the Dream right enough.
