Cardiff City and Hull City eyeing move for 22-year-old | OneFootball

The Championship teams have been joined by Aberdeen in the race for Tyrese Asante.

Championship pair Cardiff City and Hull City are both interested in a move for Maccabi Tel-Aviv centre-back Tyrese Asante.

This is according to Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph, who has also revealed that Aberdeen are another side in the mix for the Netherlands U21 international.

Asante, 22, has featured fairly regularly this season, though he has spent a chunk of the campaign on the bench.

He could potentially be snapped up by Hull, who have enjoyed an excellent January transfer window so far.

Not only have they offloaded those who are surplus to requirements, but they have also recruited several promising fresh faces, with Matt Crooks, Nordin Amrabat, Kyle Joseph, Eliot Matazo, Joe Gelhardt, Lincoln Henrique and Louie Barry all arriving at the MKM Stadium.

Loanee Barry is perhaps one of the most appealing names on this list, with the player thriving for Stockport County during the first half of the 2024/25 campaign before being recalled.

Cardiff haven't been as busy, but they have still managed to bring in some fresh faces, with Yousef Salech and Sivert Mannsverk both making the switch to the Welsh capital.

They could now be in the mix for a central defender, who could potentially make the move to the UK before the window closes on Monday night.

Joseph has reported that both Cardiff and Hull are interested in a move for Asante, who has made appearances in numerous competitions this season.

Even appearing in the Europa League, and featuring for his national team at a youth international level, he is building a very decent CV already, and that has allowed him to become the subject of interest from the English second-tier pair and Scottish Premiership outfit Aberdeen.

It may take a decent fee to lure him away from his current club though, with the player still having two-and-a-half years left on his contract in Israel, and his team having the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months after that.

With his contract situation in mind, Asante would be a cheap addition.

The fact he isn't one of Maccabi's league rivals could make him slightly cheaper, because the Israeli team may be less reluctant to sell him to a team that aren't a league rival.

But he's still a very valuable player for his current side and he will only get better, so interested teams may need to fork out a decent amount for him.

Hull, who have already spent a decent amount during this window, should not be looking to pursue a move unless the finances work for them.
