Theo Hernandez’s recent exclusions and his tense relationship with Paulo Fonseca didn’t make Milan owner Gerry Cardinale change his mind about the player’s contract extension, which remains an absolute priority.
The France international started from the bench in his side’s last two Serie A outings, and there are chances that his coach will confirm such a choice in the Rossoneri’s home meeting with Roma on Sunday.

But despite watching the left-back going through his roughest patch since arriving at the San Siro in 2019, Cardinale is firm on his decision to extend the player’s contract as he considers him a valuable asset for the club.
Fonseca’s decision to take a strong stance by keeping Theo Hernandez out cast doubts over the future of the French star, with Manchester United rumoured to be among the interested clubs, but La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that the Rossoneri owner is adamant that a new deal is of paramount importance to keep his transfer value high.

In contrast, the coach’s position is said to be much less safe, as Milan’s directors expect their side to speed up the pace and get closer to the top four following the recent troubled months and are ready to sack Fonseca if the team’s performances don’t improve in the second half of the season.
