Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has provided an insight into his decision to haul Raúl Asencio off early in the club’s meeting with Celta Vigo.
Defender Asencio, for his part, was in from the off once more this evening, as Real Madrid welcomed Celta to Spain’s capital for a La Liga clash.
En route to an eventual 3-2 triumph for Los Blancos, however, the 22-year-old was hooked from proceedings midway through the 2nd-half.
As much gave rise to widespread bemusement on the part of the Real faithful, with Asencio’s exit having quickly culminated in the capital giants conceding a pair of goals.
Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle at the Santiago Bernabéu, the subject of his surprise change at the back was therefore put to Carlo Ancelotti.
And the Italian tactician went on to admit:
“We changed Asencio because he couldn’t (continue) anymore.”
