Celtic 8-1 Partick Thistle. Jock Stein was angry with his players that a draw at Firhill a week prior forced a Scottish Cup third round replay. Celtic would not make the same mistake again – and it was the sort of dominance Hoops supporters hadn’t witnessed in the 1968/1969 season. the seven different scorers were; McNeill, Jinky, Wallace, Callaghan double, Lennox, Hughes and Gemmell.

Celtic 4-0 Hearts. Brendan Rodgers’ side extended their remarkable domestic unbeaten run since the start of the season to 27 games with a thumping victory over the Jambos. Celtic had now broken the Lisbon Lions record of 26 domestic matches unbeaten in the all-conquering season of 1966/1967.

Celtic 4-1 Aberdeen. Neil Lennon’s side, who never had a straightforward time at Hampden, booked their place in the Scottish League Cup final with a comprehensive win against the Dons. Kris Commons, Charlie Mulgrew, Anthony Stokes and Thomas Rogne had the League Cup semi-final settled 11 minutes before the interval. Commons scored six minutes into his Celtic debut.
Falkirk 1-3 Celtic. Anthony Stokes second-half double at Hampden Park fired Celtic into the Scottish League Cup final with a hard-fought victory over First Division side Falkirk. Scott Brown opened the scoring, but 17 year-old midfielder Jay Fulton, son of former Celtic player Stevie Fulton, dramatically equalised for the Bairns before the break. The Hoops would go onto face Kilmarnock in the final…
St Johnstone 0-3 Celtic. The Hoops swept aside St Johnstone with a scintillating first-half performance at McDiarmid Park. Retaining their five-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, Lennon’s men were starting to swagger towards the league title. The Griffiths and Edouard combination seemed unstoppable. Sealing the three points in a 10-minute period inside the first-half were Ntcham, Forrest and Griffiths.
Celtic 2-0 Dundee United. John Hartson and Henrik Larsson continued their excellent scoring spree. For Hartson, it was the Welshman’s 18th goal of the campaign. While, Henrik grabbed his 33rd in all competitions and his 190th Celtic career goal overtaking Yogi Hughes who amassed 189 goals in green and white Hoops.

Celtic 4-0 Kilmarnock. Ruthless efficiency was the key aspect of league season 2013/2014 – and it was exemplified at Celtic Park on this day 11 years ago. Neil Lennon’s team matched a club record of 10 consecutive league clean sheets which was previously achieved back in 1914 and 1922. Goalkeeper Fraser Forster kept his 90th career shutout for the club. Courtesy of Ledley, Mulgrew, Balde and an Ashcroft own goal, the Hoops were now 18 points clear at the foot of the table.

Willie McStay scored
SATURDAY 29 JANUARY 1921 – A poor crowd of 12,000 at Parkhead see a good 3-1 win over the black and golds of Aberdeen. The goals are scored by Tommy McInally, Adam McLean and Willie McStay with a penalty. Joe Cassidy missed a penalty, but Celtic were always well on top with Patsy Gallacher outstanding.
Jimmy Walsh scored twice
SATURDAY 29 JANUARY 1955 – The weather is very pleasant for late January as Celtic maintain their League challenge with a fine 2-0 win over Hearts at Celtic Park before a large crowd of 40,000. Jimmy Walsh scores the two goals, the second one with the last kick of the match
John Hughes scored
SATURDAY 29 JANUARY 1966 – It is hardly surprising that Celtic lose 2-3 to Hearts at Tynecastle today for they have just come back from the Soviet Union in a way that reminds classical scholars of Homer’s Odyssey! They get back into Glasgow late on the Friday night, and then Stein, in a rare misjudgement, takes the players to Parkhead for a very late night training session, when a quick hour on the Saturday morning after a night’s sleep might have been a better idea. Stein will later admit that a mistake was made in not asking the Scottish League for a postponement. As it happens, it is a very narrow defeat but future Celt Willie Wallace scores twice for Hearts. John Hughes and Joe McBride score the goals for Celtic.
SATURDAY 29 JANUARY 1994 – Today sees the last possible chance for the Kelly regime disappear. A Scottish Cup run might just have given them a reprieve, but they go down 0-1 to Motherwell at Fir Park in another spineless performance. Yet the Board, under pressure from the Bank and from the fans, will not go! The arrogance is breath taking! It is like Hitler in his Bunker in 1945!

SATURDAY 29 JANUARY 2011 – 38,085 are at Hampden to see a very one-sided Scottish League Cup semi-final as Celtic demolish a poor Aberdeen side 4-1. Kris Commons, Charlie Mulgrew, Thomas Rogne and Anthony Stokes with a penalty score the goals that put Celtic into the final.
