Jeffrey Schlupp completed a loan move to Celtic on deadline day

The Crystal Palace loanee came into sharp focus once again – after reported summer transfer window interest – when it became apparent that Mikel Arteta would not be allowing Kieran Tierney to move back home to Celtic Park earlier than his pre-contract agreement would allow. Many had hoped for a January reunion with the 27-year-old Scot but it wasn’t to be and we had to get a temporary solution sorted.

A title winner at Leicester City alongside Kasper Schmeichel

Schlupp has now arrived from Palace and comes with a sterling reputation in the English game. Kasper Schmeichel will no doubt have fond memories of playing with the utility man back in the day under Claudio Ranieri, where both men starred in a Leicester City team that shocked the odds and re-wrote the rule book when it came to who could win England’s top division.

Celtic to pay half of Schlupp’s £60k per week salary

Schlupp undeniably brings a rich experience in the game with him to Parkhead, but it’s also come to light that the predominantly left-sided defender will get a rich wage too. Alan Nixon, who was one of the first to break the news that Schlupp would be arriving at Parkhead, revealed on his podcast that the Hoops will pay half of his £60,000 per-week wage until May, which is not a negligible amount of money for the club.

Should it prove successful the move though, it will be money well spent – as is always the case in football.
