Southampton forward Cameron Archer's deadline-day move to Leeds fallout. But, did I tell you the Championship side rejected the Saints man purposefully?
They say performance and confidence must go hand in hand in Football. Be it players backing themselves or the manager's conviction in their sides, it has been for long in English football.
Still, this latest case is a real standout in the wildest way.
Recently, Championship boss Daniel Farke coldly dismissed a deadline-day move for Southampton forward Cameron Archer.
Honestly, the last few months have been disappointing for Archer. Having started his Saints career in full swing, the 23-year-old has been struggling under new boss Ivan Juric.
To the extent that, a loan move looked destined for him, considering Leeds' interest. Sadly, the forward couldn't even complete a winter exit as a deal fallout with Leeds on the deadline day.
Still, not in a million years did he deserve the rejection from the Championship club.
Post-deadline day, Leeds boss explained there's a reason why they halted on Cameron Archer's deal. Taking a jab at him, Farke pointed out it is fishy that a Premier League forward is available for a move.
As per Leeds United News, Farke said: "It means he doesn’t belong to the core group to the 17 or 18 players that are important to this side. Does a player that doesn’t make it into the top 17, 18 players in the bottom half of the Premier League really improve Leeds? Difficult I would say.”
Putting the Southampton bias aside, we all would admit that Daniel Farke has a valid point here. But, for now, surely, this statement is stinging out every Saints fan out there.
Thankfully, a solution is in hindsight.
