CHelsea manager Enzo Maresca says it’s a “nice problem” to have so many attacking players in form ahead of their Premier League meeting with Brighton this Saturday.

Christopher Nkunku netted a hat-trick for the Blues as they beat Barrow 5-0 at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night to progress to the next round of the League Cup.

The 26-year-old forward has now scored six goals in eight appearances in all competitions this season, but has only started once in the Premier League.

Nicolas Jackson appears to be the Italian’s preferred striker in the top flight, having scored four goals and made two assists in five league starts.

“They’re both doing fantastic,” Maresca said. “Not only because they score, but because they work off the ball. The way they sacrifice for the team. This is very important for them.

“This is a nice problem when you have two strikers that continue to score. It’s nice you can decide which one and because they are in a good moment we can use them.”

Asked if it was possible to play the two together, the Chelsea head coach responded: “It could be. But the problem is the defensive balance.

“We can think to place with Nicolas, Christo, Joao [Felix], Cole Palmer, Noni [Madueke], fantastic! But then who is defending? Me and you?”

Maresca made 11 changes to the team which beat West Ham 3-0 over the weekend as he looks to spread the minutes around a rather large squad. “If we have the chance we try to share minutes with all of them,” he said.

“Happy for Pedro [Neto], happy for Christo and for Joao, for all of them. They all deserve to play from the start in the Premier League but they are not playing in this moment. But the way they take the chances when we give them minutes is fantastic.”
