The Blues kicked-off the new Barclays Women’s Super League season with a narrow 1-0 victory over Aston Villa at Kingsmeadow last weekend. Chelsea now travel to Selhurst Park to face newly-promoted Crystal Palace in their next match.
Chelsea will be expected to win and win well in South London but head coach Bompastor says that the focus is on performance which should in-turn bring a result.
“As a coach and as players, we always want to have a good performance,” Bompastor said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “When you have a good performance, normally, you should get a good result. Last week, it was important to have a performance and get three points.
“We are at the beginning of the season, so we are still working on our chemistry as a team. We reviewed the game [against Aston Villa], we have provided feedback to the team to make sure we improve and we feel ready again for tomorrow.”
Crystal Palace suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on opening day but Bompastor has huge respect for opposite number Laura Kaminski and she expects The Eagles to come out fighting on Friday night.
She said “I want to give some credit to Laura [Kaminski] for what she has done with Crystal Palace last season. They are new to the division but this league is so competitive.
“I watched the game against Tottenham. The result was severe but I felt that it didn’t reflect the performance.
“We are ready to face an opponent playing their first game [of the season] at home. They will be ready to compete and make the job really hard for us.”
Chelsea were very much in the media spotlight last week with Bompastor taking charge of The Blues for the first time in a competitive fixture. The Frenchwoman played down any pressure hanging over her side and says that Chelsea are now looking to build on their opening day performance.
She said “The pressure last week was a positive pressure because we really wanted to start the season well. There was a lot of excitement and good feeling about that.
“Now, we are playing our first game away. We are focusing on ourselves and we just want to have a good performance. From last week, we have identified some areas to improve and I hope that we can see them this week in our performance.”
Chelsea’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Crystal Palace kicks-off at 7.30pm on Friday evening.
