WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blues this afternoon.
It has been reported that Spencer will spend the remainder of the current campaign at Kingsmeadow.
The 34-year-old Jamaican international keeper returns to the club were she enjoyed a previous spell between 2016 and 2018. Spencer has since gone on to enjoy a hugely successful five-and-a-half-year stint with Spurs in which she has played an important role in the team.
Chelsea have opted to move for Spencer’s services off the back of Dutch keeper Femke Liefting’s recent injury. Liefting sustained a foot injury ahead of The Blues’ latest Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Everton at Kingsmeadow. It is understood that the player will be sidelined for the longer term. Liefting’s injury, combined with Zećira Mušović’s recent pregnancy, has left Chelsea with little goalkeeping cover or competition.
It has not been revealed whether Spencer has been registered in time to feature in the Chelsea matchday squad for Sunday’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Brighton & Hove Albion. Hannah Hampton is expected to start the match as number one goalkeeper.
