Enzo Maresca has left the likes of Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson on the bench as Chelsea travel to face Djurgarden in the first leg of their Conference League semi-final tie tonight.

The Blues are red-hot favourites to reach next month’s final in Wroclaw but Maresca is juggling twin priorities as his side seek to secure a top-five finish in the Premier League and a return to the Champions League next term.

Newly-crowned champions Liverpool visit Stamford Bridge on Sunday and Maresca has opted against going full-strength on an artificial surface. Moises Caicedo and Levi Colwill join Palmer and Jackson on a very strong bench.

Chelsea are without Robert Sanchez and Christopher Nkunku for the trip after both players were left in London nursing knocks.

Despite making his return to the starting XI in the 1-0 win over Everton on Saturday, Romeo Lavia is ineligible having been left out of Chelsea’s European squad at the start of the campaign.

Wesley Fofana and Marc Guiu remain out injured, while youngsters Ted Curd, Reggie Walsh and Shim Mheuka have been included in the travelling squad.

Tyrique George gets another opportunity from the start, while Noni Madueke and Jadon Sancho also start with Enzo Fernandez in a more advanced role.

Chelsea XI: Jorgensen; Acheampong, Tosin, Badiashile, Cucurella; James, Dewsbury-Hall; Madueke, Fernandez, Sancho; George

Subs: Bergstrom, Curd, Colwill, Chalobah, Gusto, Caicedo, Amougou, Walsh, Palmer, Neto, Mheuka, Jackson

Time and date: 8pm BST on Thursday May 1, 2025

Venue: 3Arena, Stockholm
