Chris Sutton has backed Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to win against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League this weekend.
The former Chelsea striker and BBC Sport pundit has predicted that Arsenal will secure all three points from the encounter in North London on Sunday courtesy of a 2-1 win.
Arsenal, linked with Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, are second in the Premier League table at the moment with 47 points from 23 games.
The Gunners are six points behind leaders Liverpool, who have played 22 games.
Defending Premier League champions City are out of the title race. Pep Guardiola’s side are now fourth with 41 points from 23 games.
Sutton wrote on BBC Sport: “This is a huge game for the Gunners – in the past couple of seasons it has been a title decider when they’ve played Manchester City but this time only Arsenal’s title hopes are on the line.
“City have improved of late but I still look at them and think they are going to concede a goal, as Club Brugge showed on Wednesday.
It was a great game when these two met earlier in the season and Leandro Trossard was sent off in a 2-2 draw. The readers will probably go for a 1-1 draw this time, I reckon, but I am going to pick a winner.
“It is the Gunners who I see taking this, and I wouldn’t be surprised if a set-piece proves crucial. Let’s hope City striker Erling Haaland can ‘stay humble’ if his team do end up being beaten.
“Sutton’s prediction: 2-1.”
If Arsenal are to have a realistic chance of winning the Premier League title this season, then they have to win against Manchester City.
The Gunners simply cannot afford to drop any points against City at the Emirates Stadium.
Liverpool face Bournemouth away from home at the Vitality Stadium in the Premier League this weekend.
Despite Bournemouth being in good form and exceeding expectations at the moment, Liverpool should have enough to get past them.
With Liverpool expected to win against the Cherries, Arsenal simply cannot afford to draw or lose against City.
The Gunners are in good form in the Premier League. The North London club have lost just two league games all season and have won four of their last six.
City are also doing well at the moment. The Citizens have also won four of their last six Premier League games.
Guardiola’s side also beat Club Brugge 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday evening.
Arsenal have to be on top of their game if they are to pick up all three points against City.
