Sky Germany reports that both left-back Daniel Svensson and attacking midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka are both fit for Borussia Dortmund’s first game back after the international break.

Dortmund have been struggling with their form and will need something close to a miracle to help them qualify for the Champions League at the end of the season, so need as many players fit and healthy as possible to even attempt such a push.

Chukwuemeka has been struggling with slight knocks since joining from Chelsea on loan in the winter which has restricted him to limited cameos, but is now fit enough to have more of an impact. The 21-year-old is using this international break to dismiss any speculation about his fitness and work on the minor issues he has been dealing with.

With the injury to Marcel Sabitzer, Dortmund will need additional numbers in midfield to help mitigate the loss of the Austrian, something Chukwuemeka will be able to provide. Felix Nmecha on the other hand, is still not fit for the game against Mainz and Dortmund’s following game against Freiburg is more realistic.

Fellow winter arrival Svensson will also be fit for the game at home to Mainz. The 23-year-old has already begun running and is in contention for the game after the international break following a knee injury. The return of Svensson will also be a boost for Dortmund’s defensive numbers as apart from Julian Ryerson, none of Dortmund’s full-backs have performed this season.
