Chelsea have “long been in the mix” for Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams according to transfer expert David Ornstein.
The Blues are gearing up for another busy window and it’s thought they could look to sell as many as seven or eight players to fund their moves in the market.
Chelsea face arguably the most important window under the new ownership, with the club looking to sign a striker, centre back and right footed attacker.
There’s likely to be movement in the wide areas this summer with Noni Madueke linked with a move away, whilst Chelsea are yet to decide if they will make Jadon Sancho’s move permanent.
It’s unclear if or when Mykhailo Mudryk will play for the club again following a positive doping test in December, so the Blues need to sign a replacement.
Estevao Willian will arrive in the summer, whilst Chelsea have been strongly linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens.

Ornstein has provided an update on Chelsea’s hunt for a winger and revealed the club have “long been in the mix” for Williams.
“I’m not aware of Chelsea being active on Rafael Leão at the moment,” he told The Athletic.
They have long been in the mix for Nico Williams, while Jamie Gittens is also among multiple options Chelsea like and are considering.”
Chelsea have previously been linked with Williams, who shone for Spain as they won Euro 2024 last summer and the winger is said to have a release clause of around £49m.

The 22-year-old has scored 11 goals and registered seven assists in 42 appearances in all competitions, although Chelsea would likely need to break their wage structure if they were to sign him.
If Chelsea do go for Williams they are set to face a lot of competition for the Spain international with the likes of Arsenal and Barcelona interested, but if they are to stand any chance they will almost certainly have to offer Champions League football.
