Everton Women win Merseyside derby with controversial penalty | OneFootball

Everton win Merseyside derby to climb off bottom of Barclays Women’s Super League, Aston Villa were victorious in stoppage time.

Aston Villa 3-2 Crystal Palace Everton 1-0 Liverpool Leicester City 0-2 Manchester United

Everton edged the Merseyide derby at Goodison Park, leaving Liverpool frustrated at a penalty decision against them. Katja Snoeijs converted a 42nd-minute spot-kick after Fuka Nagano took down Honoka Hayashi but just outside the box. Courtney Brosnan made a double save after the break to maintain the lead, also saving from Gemma Bonner in added time, helping lift the Toffees off the bottom and up to ninth.

Crystal Palace got a late leveller but Aston Villa hit back for an even later winner at Villa Park. Both keepers had to make two saves in the opening three minutes, My Cato slotting the Eagles one up after half an hour. Anna Patten fired home a loose ball to level within ten minutes and Rachel Daly gave them the lead in first-half added time from Kirsty Hanson’s pass. Palace’s Annabel Blanchard equalised from an Ashleigh Weerden cross with time running out, then deep into stoppage time  Ebony Salmon hit a Paula Tomás delivery into the top corner for a dramatic Villa winner, pushing Palace to the foot of the table.

Manchester United’s win at Leicester City put them back level on points with fourth-placed Arsenal with a game in hand. Elisabeth Terland gave United an interval lead with a header from Geyse’s cross in added time. Into the last ten minutes the visitors extended their lead, Celin Bizet Ildhusøy finding the back of the net.
