David Prutton told FLW that Ralph Hasenhuttl would be a decent appointment for Norwich City as they search for a new boss.

David Prutton believes that Ralph Hasenhuttl would be a smart appointment for Norwich City as they step up their search for Johannes Hoff Thorup’s successor.

The Canaries have endured a disappointing campaign, as they failed to mount a proper push for a play-off place, and ultimately ended up finishing in the bottom half.

That prompted the hierarchy to sack Thorup at the end of April, with Jack Wilshere leading the side for the final two games.

Norwich City manager latest

It has since been confirmed that Wilshere won’t be landing the job on a permanent basis, with sporting director Ben Knapper revealing that he hopes to have a new boss in place by the end of the month.

As you would expect, a host of names have been linked with the vacancy, with Tom Cleverley rumoured to be under consideration.

Yet, it’s Hasenhuttl who has been made favourite by some bookmakers for the role, with the ex-Southampton chief out of work after he was sacked by Wolfsburg last week.

Of course, the 57-year-old has experience in the English game, as he enjoyed an almost four-year spell with Southampton from 2018, when they were regulars in the top-flight.

As well as that, he has promotions on his CV in Germany, along with a second-placed finish in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig.

So, he certainly has a good pedigree, and Prutton exclusively told FLW that Hasenhuttl would work well at Carrow Road, even if there are other attractive options out there too.

“I like that, I think that fits, along with many others, such as Rob Edwards.

“We saw the appointment from last season, Thorup, being unsuccessful, to put it kindly. But, given the work Ralph did with Southampton, it was an engaging team he created, with some real high points, and massive low points, but that’s the nature of the beast as a manager.

“Yeah, he’s decent enough, and he’s one of many that would be a good contender for that job.”

Ralph Hasenhuttl ticks a lot of boxes for Norwich City

It’s clear that Norwich want to be in the mix for promotion next season, and Hasenhuttl is the sort of high-calibre manager that could ensure they are in the hunt to go up.

Crucially, he would bring a style of play that would appear to suit the group. The Austrian demands high pressing, intensity, and quick, attacking football, which is what the fans want as well.

With Hasenhuttl most recently at Wolfsburg, he may take some convincing to drop to the Championship, but the project and potential of Norwich is an exciting one given the change in ownership.
