Coach Cesc Fabregas said Como’s victory was ‘deserved’ after watching his side emerge 3-2 winners at the end of a tight match against Verona, but lamented their defensive fragility and lack of clinical edge.
After a winless start in their opening four Serie A matches, Como picked up two consecutive wins over Atalanta and Verona, but both were dramatic 3-2 results.
“We conceded a goal in the closing minutes and this is not good,” Fabregas said in a post-match interview as quoted by Hellas Live.
“Everyone knows we played a great first half and deserved to win. However, we could’ve scored five or six goals in the opening 45 minutes. We should’ve wrapped up the game earlier.
“We can’t keep conceding two goals in every match, so we should keep analysing our mistakes and improve.”
Como conceded twice in each of their last two wins, as well as in their previous Serie A match against Bologna which ended in a 2-2 draw after a late comeback from their opponents.
The Lariani have leaked 11 goals in their first six matches, meaning they’re the second-worst defence in the league after Atalanta’s.
However, they’ve also scored nine goals in the process, with Cutrone recording a particularly prolific start to the season, finding the net four times.
“If we do well as a team, Cutrone will get more chances to score,” added Fabregas.
“Today, my team showcased a great personality and the football I want to see.”
