At the moment, FC Barcelona are currently working on several renewals at the club. Despite the registration issues that they faced with Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, the club has managed to put those woes behind them. However, Barcelona must now turn their attention towards other pending concerns.

The likes of Pedri and Gavi currently have pending contract renewals that need to be sorted out. However, there is also another key player whose future at the club looked to have been in jeopardy previously, but there has now been much more optimism about him staying instead.

That player is none other than Ronald Araujo, a Uruguayan centre-back who also happens to be a club captain. Previously linked to Juventus in a move away from the Catalan giants, he is now expected to stay following negotiations with the club.

In fact, as per Fabrizio Romano himself, his stay at the club is now almost guaranteed. According to the Italian journalist, the Barcelona star is expected to sign his new deal tomorrow after club Director Deco received the green light from both the player and his camp.

Now, with the player set to sign his new contract tomorrow, he is expected to be at the club for many more years to come. As per Romano, the Uruguayan defender will sign a renewal until 2031, ensuring a contract extension for another five and a half years at the club.

This will undoubtedly be great news for all involved parties, as Araujo is seen as a pillar for the team and Barcelona have enough trust in him to have him as one of the team captains. With the player now set to stay, all the rumors linking him to an exit can finally be put to rest.

However, he will need to continue competing at the highest level against the other centre-backs at the club as well. There should be meritocracy at Barcelona, and Hansi Flick seems to always keep that in mind. While Araujo’s renewal is great news, it simply means that there will be even more competition in a squad that wants to compete for everything.
