According to Het Nieuwsblad, FC Utrecht are in talks with Borussia Dortmund over a potential loan deal for Sebastien Haller. The 30-year-old forward has been on loan in Spain with Leganes, but has so far only played nine games and has failed to score in La Liga. The former West Ham and Ajax striker joined Dortmund in the summer of 2022 and has gone on to score 12 goals in 41 games. Just a few weeks after joining Dortmund he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, which he has since recovered from. He then went on to play a major part in Cote d’Ivoire’s recent AFCON home win.
Utrecht want to bring the striker back to the club, with the forward having played for the Dutch side between 2015 and 2017. During that time he scored 51 goals in 98 games before joining Eintracht Frankfurt. With Leganes having ended the loan period early, Haller is free to find a new club. Utrecht cannot afford to pay the same amount that the Spanish side paid to loan Haller for the season, but the striker is said to be keen to make a switch back to Utrecht.
Haller has been a success in the Netherlands. After not fully playing to his strengths during his time with West Ham, Haller rediscovered his form during a season with Ajax, where he scored an incredible 47 goals in 66 games. Should Haller re-join Utrecht, he would provide a major boost in their attempt to push for a top two finish and a place in the Champions League next season.
