Manchester United’s defence is currently looking quite threadbare, and it looks like Ruben Amorim could do with reinforcements in the summer.

Lisandro Martinez has been ruled out until the start of next year while his position could also be altered. On Sunday, Matthijs de Ligt suffered another injury which the head coach revealed as being a serious one which could potentially rule him out for the start of the new season.

Add to this Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof‘s potential departures, and all the Portuguese tactician will have at the back is Leny Yoro, an ageing Harry Maguire, and an unfit Luke Shaw.

Ayden Heaven did impress but he is way too young to be overburdened and the same can be said of Tyler Fredricson, who needs to bulk up to play regularly in the Premier League.

Amorim could do with defensive reinforcements

Another senior option would be quite handy and the Red Devils have been linked with a move for Fiorentina’s Pietro Comuzzo in the past with the club actively scouting him this season.

The 20-time English league champions are not the only teams eyeing the 20-year-old with Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, Brighton and Bournemouth all keeping close tabs.

Italian giants Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan have also been sniffing around and to end all conjecture surrounding his future, TBR Football have revealed that the Italian has signed a new long-term deal which will keep him in Florence until 2028.

“TBR Football have been informed that Arsenal, Chelsea, Man United and Newcastle all made direct enquiries over a potential move for Comuzzo in recent months, while Brighton and Bournemouth have also been keeping close tabs on his development.

“Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan were all also credited with strong interest in the Italy youth international, who is now regarded as one of the most sought-after young defenders in Europe.

Comuzzo signs new deal

“But TBR Football understands that Fiorentina have now tied the defender down to a new long-term contract and have informed all English suitors that the 20-year-old had opted to extend his stay in Serie A.”

Despite his young age, he has been a regular feature for the Viola, appearing 41 times across all competitions while helping keep 11 clean sheets. His age makes him the perfect profile for INEOS but it seems they might have lost the chance for now.

Comuzzo has earned rave reviews for his ability to play out from the back, while his positioning and anticipation are also top-notch, which explains the abundance of interested suitors.

He currently has a market value of €25 million and it makes sense for him to stay and gain more experience before pursuing a move away. United will obviously keep a close watch.
