We’re having a look at the best captaincy picks ahead of this week’s round of fixtures following a number of teams midweek outings both in Europe and the Carabao Cup. Here are FPL GW6 best captaincy choices!

Our surprise pick for GW5 was Tottenham playmaker James Maddison and the 27 year-old did not disappoint. It took only 8 minutes for him to assist summer signing Dominic Solanke for his first goal for his new club.

Having created numerous chances throughout the match he got on the scoresheet himself with 5 minutes remaining to cap off a brilliant man-of-the-match performance and delight FPL managers with 3 bonus points.

An impressive return of 12 points for the England International with a very reasonable price tag of 7.5m.

FPL GW6 Best Captain Options: The Usual Suspects

Expected points: 7.2

Still yet to return a blank this season and providing an assist very similar to last week’s goal in the North London Derby. Saka’s pinpoint corner for Gabriel’s goal was the perfect boost for the Gunners, as they took the lead against City just before halftime.

Unfortunately for Mikel Arteta’s side, they were unable to hold on to that lead as John Stones’ late equaliser meant there was a share of the spoils between the Premier League’s top two.

This week, Saka and co. welcome newly promoted Leicester City to the Emirates off the back of an emphatic 5-1 defeat of Bolton Wanderers in midweek in the Carabao cup.

The young winger has yet to score against Leicester in his 7 appearances against the Foxes but this weekend’s clash presents the perfect opportunity to get off the mark and extend Arsenal’s unbeaten start to the season.

Captaincy-wise, he seems like the obvious choice when looking closely at GW6’s fixtures.

2. Cole Palmer (10.6m)

Expected points: 7.1

Under Enzo Maresca, Chelsea are showing signs of getting back to the force they used to be and are unbeaten apart from their 2-0 defeat to reigning champions Manchester City in GW1.

Cole Palmer is at the heart of the Blues resurgence in form this season; his goal just after half-time last week put the icing on the cake of an impressive performance against London rivals West Ham.

He looked dangerous every time he touched the ball and his influence on this team seems to grow each week.

This week, Brighton head to Stamford Bridge off the back of 3 consecutive league draws and Palmer has only played 90 minutes once before against the Seagulls.

That performance came at the Amex at the back end of last season; Palmer got on the scoresheet in a 2-1 victory that put them within touching distance of their European qualification for this term.

We expect him to continue his excellent form this weekend.

3. Mo Salah (12.8m)

Expected points: 7.8

Last weekend, Mo Salah was overtaken by Luis Diaz as Liverpool’s highest point scorer in this season’s FPL as the Colombian scored a quick-fire double on the way to the Reds 3-0 defeat of Bournemouth at Anfield.

The Egyptian has now failed to score in his last two Premier League outings and will be keen to change that stat this weekend as they make the trip to Molineux to play Wolves.

In his 12 Premier League appearances against Wolves, the 32 year-old has 9 goal contributions (4 goals, 5 assists) and there is no reason why he can’t add to that tally this weekend.

The razor-sharp wideman has looked increasingly dangerous over the last couple of weeks and even chipped in with a goal in his sides 5-1 victory over West Ham in midweek despite only making a 30-minute cameo.

The Egyptian is definitely a live contender to get this week’s captains armband but with Saka & Palmer both playing at home, we feel they might be better options.

4. Erling Haaland (15.2m)

Expected Points: 8.1

It’s no secret that Erling Haaland has started the season in scintillating form, having scored 10 goals in his opening 5 Premier League matches.

His biggest challenge of the season came last week as he faced Gabriel & William Saliba in a top-of-the-table clash between City and Arsenal.

It only took the big centre-forward 9 minutes to get on the scoresheet against the Gunners, though. From then on, however, the league’s strongest defence got to grips with the big Norwegian and his impact on the rest of the match was limited.

City managed to rescue a point with a late equalizer from John Stones.

The 24-year-old boasts an impressive record against this week’s opponents, Newcastle. He has lined up against the Magpies 4 times and has yet to suffer defeat while also scoring once.

Making the trip to St James Park can be quite a difficult fixture for away teams but City’s record against Newcastle recently suggests they could be on the way to picking up another 3 points.

Haaland has a 5-goal lead at the top of the Premier League goalscoring charts and he will want to extend that even further this weekend.

Newcastle have only conceded 4 goals so far this season and their centre-back pairing of Fabian Schar & Dan Burn has created a solid partnership that could see Haaland struggle this weekend.

For once, we are avoiding giving FPL’s highest point scorer the captain’s armband this weekend.

Mohammed Kudus (6.3m)

Expected points: 3.5

It’s been a torrid start to the season for Julien Lopetegui and West Ham; picking up only 4 points throughout their 5 opening games is far from good enough and understandably, Hammers fans are starting to get frustrated with the Spaniards style of play since joining the club in May.

But even though they suffered a crushing 5-1 defeat to Liverpool in the cup in midweek, there were signs of improvement and they even took the lead at Anfield.

Although it was an under-strength Liverpool side, West Ham were in control of proceedings during the early stages of the match with Jarrod Bowen, Crysencio Summerville and Carlos Soler looking particularly dangerous.

But this week we are focusing on another of West Ham’s attackers with Mohammed Kudus; he has caught the eye throughout the opening weeks of the season even though results have not gone the Hammers way.

For an affordable 6.3m, it’s a no-brainer to bring in the Ghanaian and they’re overdue an upturn in results. He is a very good differential option to give the captains armband to this week as they make the trip across London to Brentford in search of their 2nd win this season.

His direct running, silky skills, and eye for a goal mean he is a constant threat going forward. In this fixture last year, Kudus was on the scoresheet so let’s hope he can replicate that feat this weekend.
