Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram is almost certain to miss the Supercoppa Italiana final against AC Milan through injury.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report the Frenchman could undergo medical tests today, with Mehdi Taremi favourite to start on Monday.
The one blemish on Inter’s Supercoppa semifinal win over Atalanta this week was Taremi’s condition.
The 27-year-old started the match. However, he came off at halftime, as he was feeling some stiffness in his left adductor muscles.
Now the question is whether Thuram will be able to recover in time for the final.
Considering the Frenchman is Inter’s top scorer for the season so far and has been in blazing form, losing him would certainly be a blow.
Thuram has yet to shake off the discomfort that forced him off on Tuesday.
Today, the Corriere reports, the former Borussia Monchengladbach striker could undergo tests with Inter’s medical staff.
If Thuram’s condition doesn’t improve, the medical team could look to identify an underlying injury.
But in the meantime, there is little optimism that Thuram can rush back to face AC Milan on Monday.
Therefore, Iranian international striker Mehdi Taremi looks to be the favourite to start against the Rossoneri.
