Lamine Yamal is by some distance one of the most exciting players to have emerged from the FC Barcelona academy in the last few years.
Still only 17 years of age, the young winger has already made a name for himself among the elite of European football, and his achievements and accolades in only two years of professional football prove his quality beyond any doubt.
After making his debut with the Blaugrana first team only at the age of 15 years, he won the UEFA EURO 2024 aged 16, and now at 17, he is one of the key starters for Hansi Flick as the German coach looks to lead his Catalan team towards glory in all the big competitions.
But the €180m-rated La Masia graduate still needs to make some improvements to become an even better footballer, and as Mundo Deportivo has reported, one area where such improvements are needed was identified by one of the most well-known names in Italian football, Francesco Totti.

Speaking in a podcast, alongside other former footballers Antonio Cassano and Nicola Ventola, the AS Roma legend highlighted one aspect that Yamal needs to work on:
“Lamine is very strong; he was flying at the Euros… It looked like he was soaring. Then he slowed down a bit. He’s doing very well, but he still scores few goals.”
The 17-year-old Barcelona winger is on a long goal drought in La Liga, where he has not scored since the match against Real Madrid in October. However, his numbers are still not bad, as he has 11 goals and 16 assists in 35 appearances this season.
There is no doubt that these are very good numbers, especially for a 17-year-old player, but one can understand why Totti is setting the bar high for Yamal, as he has the potential to become one of the very best players in the history of European football.
