St Mirren 3-4 Celtic. Jimmy Quinn makes his competitive debut for Celtic in a game marred by off-field controversies. Infamous for a melee that ensued, Celtic president John Glass was assaulted. On-field, the Hoops were 4-1 up, but St Mirren managed to reduce the deficit to 4-3 in the second-half where it has been said the referee lost full control of the encounter.

Celtic 8-1 Hamilton. An emphatic scoreline for Ronny Deila’s men who were now six clear at the top of the table in pursuit of their fourth consecutive league title. Leigh Griffiths took the match-ball home with titans of modern-day Celtic success; Lustig, Bitton, Rogic, Forrest and McGregor piling on the agony for Martin Canning’s Accies side.

Celtic 3-0 Airdrieonians. Timo Weah steals the headlines and scores on his competitive debut for Celtic in this Scottish Cup fourth round outing. Oliver Burke’s debut for the Hoops saw him become the 900th player to make a competitive appearance for the club. Despite Sinclair missing a first-half penalty, Celtic cruised to victory. In notching a 3-0 scoreline, it was now a 23rd straight domestic cup win under the stewardship of Brendan Rodgers – a run that equalled a record set by Walter Smith’s Rangers side between 1992 and 1994.

Tommy Coyne scores the winner for Celtic against Aberdeen at Celtic Park on 19 January 1991. Press cutting.

Celtic 1-0 Aberdeen. Tommy Coyne scored a dramatic last-gasp winner. However, the real highlight of the game was a ‘Stop the War’ campaigner invading the field. He was then arrested for his actions.

Celtic 2-1 St Johnstone. Henrik Larsson silenced his critics with a strike early on following the Swede’s mentality being questioned during the week after he passed penalty duties over to John Hartson the week prior. Interestingly, the referee Kevin Toner for this league clash is the son of ex Celtic and Kilmarnock great Willie Toner.

19 January 2013

Celtic 4-1 Hearts. Neil Lennon’s men paid tribute to the late Sean Fallon who sadly passed away the day before with a comprehensive victory over the Jambos. The Green Brigade produced a banner outlining, ‘A Celtic Great’ with a depiction of Fallon. A Hooper double, with Samaras and Lassad getting in on the act put the reigning Scottish champions nine clear of their nearest title challengers Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Jimmy “Napoleon” McMenemy scored

SATURDAY 19 JANUARY 1907 – In splendid weather for the middle of January, Celtic beat Morton 2-1 at Parkhead before a good crowd of 20,000. All the goals are scored in the first half. Morton’s goal comes from a soft penalty, according to The Scottish Referee, but Jimmy McMenemy with a header and then Alec McNair score for Celtic. Celtic remain on top but cannot add to their total. Celtic are now 8 points clear of Dundee at the top of the League with 10 games to go.

Jimmy Delaney one of the few to impress for Celtic

SATURDAY 19 JANUARY 1935 – Pittodrie is fast becoming a bogey ground for Celtic, and today they went down 0-2. This was a shame for a huge Celtic support had made its way up north to see them. But only Jimmy Delaney and Johnny Crum played like the Celts of old. McGrory, just back from injury, was seldom in the picture.

SATURDAY 19 JANUARY 1957 – Celtic’s poor form of late means that there was a “marked drop” in the Celtic support at Palmerston Park, Dumfries to see what sounds like a great game which ended 4-3 for Queen of the South. In fact it was no such thing. It was 1-1 at half time (both goals being own goals!) but then Queens were 4-1 up before Celtic fought back when it was too late. They scored their last two goals through Higgins and Mochan with the Celtic support already out of the ground heading disconsolately towards their buses or the railway station. Other than the League Cup won in October, it has been a very poor season for Celtic so far.

Vic Davidson on the attack versus St Johnstone

SATURDAY 19 JANUARY 1974 – St. Johnstone have caused Celtic more than their fair share of trouble in recent years, so the 3-0 victory at Parkhead is all the more satisfying for Jock Stein’s men. 19,000 see Celtic go ahead with an own goal scored by Jim Argue of the Saints in the first half, but then Stevie Murray scores for Celtic within the last fifteen minutes, followed by the award of a penalty which Bobby Lennox duly converts.

Niall McGinn scored

TUESDAY 19 JANUARY 2010 – Cappielow Park has seen many great games between Morton and Celtic over the years, but this was not one of them, even though it was a Scottish Cup tie. Celtic are playing in that dreadful yellow and black strip that makes them look like a swarm of wasps, and although they are the better team, they can only score one goal in the 90 minutes and that was from Niall McGinn. However it is a win and Dunfermline Athletic are next up in the Scottish Cup.
