AC Milan’s exit from the Champions League was a costly one, not just in terms of the emotional drain on the squad but also the money missed out on.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan will still earn €61m from their 2024-25 Champions League campaign before adding the ticket revenues, but draw exit to Feyenoord means no €11m for qualification for the last 16 and no more box office revenues either.

It only took three weeks to drastically change Milan’s European prospects and it started with the defeat in the final game of the ‘league phase’ to Dinamo Zagreb, which meant a drop in the table from sixth (and therefore direct last 16 qualification) to 13th.

Then, going out 2-1 on aggregate to the Dutch side completed what was a nightmare three games in the top European competition, meaning the accounts will be without the €11m mentioned and around €9.1m or more in ticket sales (based on the Spurs last 16 tie two seasons ago).

Milan close the 2024-25 European campaign with approximately €61m from the UEFA prize distribution and – considering the five home games – one can imagine a figure not far from €25m will be added from the box office.

However, the title of the article reads: ‘How to throw away 20 million in 45 minutes. Milan lost… half of Gimenez against Feyenoord’. It refers to the fact that with the prize and ticket money from the last 16, most of the fee for the striker would have been repaid.
