Yesterday was one of the most chaotic days in AC Milan’s recent history when it comes to January business, as the management seem to have opted for overhaul.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport report this morning, there are a lot of moving pieces at the moment with the Milan directors aiming to try and line up both incoming and outgoing business, to create a squad more ready for Sergio Conceicao.
Milan are one step away from signing Santiago Gimenez, with Alvaro Morata heading for Galatasaray in a loan plus option deal worth around €15m. Morata understood that Conceicao does not consider him crucial, and thus gave the green light to a move to Turkey.
The finish line is close for Gimenez in any case and a (positive) answer could have arrived during the night given that the CEO Giorgio Furlani left the office around 23:00 CET, with his laptop in hand. Otherwise, the parties will talk about it again today.
Feyenoord have understood that the Rossoneri wants Gimenez at all costs and is trying to get as much money as possible, with their asking price dropping to €35m including bonuses. The deadline for the transfer window (midnight on Monday_ is still relatively far away, but Milan do not intend to wait until the last day.
The adductor injury suffered by the striker in Lille on Wednesday is not serious even if the checks are scheduled for today. If things were to go wrong from here, Milan would turn to Lorenzo Lucca of Udinese and there have been contacts.
In addition, Francesco Camarda is all set to join Monza on a loan deal with no option or obligation to buy, so he can get more regular playing time to continue his development path.
And then there is the Joao Felix affair. The Portuguese wants to leave Chelsea for Milan and Jorge Mendes – the agent of the forward and Conceicao – is pushing for this to happen. The Blues, bringing David Datro Fofana back from his loan at Goztepe, have a free loan spot.
Now it is up to Milan to understand if there is room to include him in the squad. With Kyle Walker and most likely Gimenez entering the Champions League squad list, Felix would be the third change allowed. Noah Okafor would be the one to make way for him.
Word has spread from Turkey that Galatasaray – in addition to Morata – will try for Strahinja Pavlovic too. However, the defender wishes to stay with the Diavolo and for the moment he ‘will not budge’ on this desire, especially after impressive recent performances.
Como told Milan they would offer over €40m for Theo Hernandez, but the Frenchman has said no to the transfer. The story is different for Fikayo Tomori, who is wanted by Spurs, West Ham and Aston Villa. The Diavolo want a €30m fee, whether an obligation to buy or conditional option.
Finally, watch out for Davide Calabria who is evaluating the possibility of joining Bologna or Ajax. He could leave six months before the end of his contract but for now Milan have not received any offers.
