Inter Milan are monitoring Gianluigi Donnarumma’s contract situation at Paris Saint-Germain with a view to a potentially sensational swoop for the former AC Milan goalkeeper.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, and via FCInterNews.it, Donnarumma would be keen on a return to Serie A and is open to a switch to Inter, particularly in light of comments he made following Italy’s UEFA Nations League defeat to Germany at the Stadio San Siro on Thursday.

“A certain San Siro fanbase would like me here? I’m very pleased, I’m happy. These are situations that will be considered later. In the meantime, I’m happy to be back, I really missed Italy and San Siro,” Donnarumma declared following the match,

The 26-year-old only has one year remaining on his contract with the Ligue 1 champions and discussions over a renewal have not yet progressed, leaving the door open to an exit.

Whilst his stock has risen in Paris following some strong recent performances, PSG are far from convinced and the Italian’s €12 million per year wage demands could be a stumbling block.

Inter are happy with current first choice Yann Sommer, but the Switzerland international will be 37 this year and the club are already looking for future alternatives.

Donnarumma broke through at Milan as a 16-year-old and made 251 appearances for the Rossoneri before a controversial switch to PSG as a free agent in 2021.
