Milan Primavera boss Federico Guidi was beaming with pride after his side reached the final of the Coppa Italia with a win over Lecce.
The Primavera booked their place in the final of the cup with a narrow 1-0 win over Lecce at the PUMA House of Football this afternoon.
The decisive moment came with 22 minutes left when a mistake by a Lecce defender saw Scotti seize possession and dribble towards the opponent’s goal.
He beat the goalkeeper Rafaila with a precise right-footed shot that ended up in the corner, and thanks to some resolute defending – plus Alessandro Longoni in goal – that would be enough.
Guidi spoke to MilanPress after the full-time whistle to give instant reaction to his side’s success, with a final against either Cagliari or Juventus to look forward to.
“There is satisfaction, my boys deserve to go and play in a final for a trophy giving a meaning to the sacrifices made in these months. There is great pride because they put in a positive performance,” he said.
“They deserved the result where perhaps the only flaw was not having capitalised on all the opportunities created, at least the ‘easier’ ones. The team gave a demonstration from a mental point of view, showing maturity and not wanting to suffer by conceding shots on goal.
“They conceded just one opportunity in the first half, where Longoni was good. We are satisfied, we deserved it. I am very proud of each of them.
“The many young players in the squad? Even today we fielded a team that was ‘under age’, we were at least one age group below below. Then the age difference even increased as soon as Comotto came on.
This is Milan’s philosophy, what we try to do, managing to combine performance with the growth of the players is not trivial, I often say this.
“They are lucky because the club believes in every single player and in their training, and when you manage to win despite the squad being much younger there is great satisfaction for everyone.
“It is clear that not everything is done yet, the final awaits us and then we still have to run in the league. It would be a very important result to also take the team to the playoffs for the Scudetto.
“We have to work and continue to make sacrifices. If you do what everyone does, it is normal for those with more experience to beat us. We will continue on this path.”
