Hansi Flick joins some of the most successful coaches in Barcelona history with La Liga 2024-25 win | OneFootball

FC Barcelona wrapped up the La Liga title following their win over RCD Espanyol in their last league match. This win meant the Blaugranes had a seven-point lead over the second-placed Real Madrid, and with only six points left to play for, the league is already mathematically won by the Catalans.

This league win put a seal on the excellent first season that Hansi Flick has had since his arrival at Barcelona, as he had already won the Spanish Super Cup and Copa del Rey before that.

Hansi Flick makes history

In fact, with this league title, Mundo Deportivo notes that Hansi Flick has joined nine other managers in the Blaugrana club’s history who won the league in their first season in charge.

The first two names to win a league title in their first season at the Catalan club were Roma Forns and James Bellamy. The former started the 1928-29 season as the head coach, but ended the season as the assistant to the latter, when the team won the La Liga title.

Then, Josep Samitier, who was the first individual to win La Liga both as a player and a manager, won it in his first season in charge of the team, i.e., 1944-45. In the same decade, Enrique Fernandez again won the league title in his first season in charge.

The next manager to win La Liga right away came four decades later, and it was the Englishman Terry Venables, who did so in 1984-85, when his team remained the league leaders from the first matchday to the last.

Van Gaal, Guardiola, Vilanova, Enrique, and Valverde

Louis van Gaal repeated the feat in the 1997-98 season and Pep Guardiola again did so in 2008-09. Similarly, Tito Vilanova (2012-13), Luis Enrique (2014-15), and Ernesto Valverde (2017-18) also won La Liga in their first seasons in charge.

Now, Hansi Flick has also joined this illustrious company and hopefully, he will enjoy even more success, like some of these former coaches, in the coming seasons as well.
