FC Barcelona is set to take on Valencia at the Montjuic Stadium in a few hours. A crucial La Liga encounter, it is one that Hansi Flick’s side are eager to compete in and go for the victory. However, it is also a match that Barcelona simply cannot afford to drop points in.
While Atletico Madrid have dropped points, Real Madrid have ended up winning their recent game against Real Valladolid. This means that winning this game would not just allow Barcelona to close the existing gap with Atletico Madrid, but also maintain the distance with Real Madrid and keep it to seven points for now.
However, it would appear that Hansi Flick is still looking to make some rotations in this game. Despite it being an important clash in La Liga, the German coach already confirmed ahead of the game itself that he would be relying on some fresh legs for the game itself.
According to SPORT, those changes will likely see Robert Lewandowski being benched and Eric Garcia getting a chance to start. This would provide rest to the Polish striker, who would likely be replaced by Ferran Torres, as well as giving Garcia a big opportunity.
After having spoken to him and convincing him to stay at the club, such a gesture would indeed be a clear show of faith in the Spanish defender’s abilities. However, if he does end up starting, it could mean that either of Pau Cubarsi or Ronald Araujo could be benched because of it, and it could very well be the Uruguayan defender.
Similarly, another massive dilemma that has now presented itself to Flick is in the midfield. With Pedri unavailable due to illness, the Barcelona coach will now have to decide what kind of a midfield he ends up putting out, and if it is Fermin Lopez or Frenkie de Jong that ends up getting a start.
