John Hartson insists that Celtic can never rest on their laurels as far as player recruitment is concerned and instead must always look to improve every area of the team as every given opportunity, including this summer…

The Celtic transfer model is working well with the former Celtic striker noting that he could rhyme off at least a half a dozen players who the Scottish Champions have been been sold on for big money, allowing the club to reinvest in the squad and maintain its position as the dominant force in Scottish football and a re-emerging contender at the elite Champions League level under Brendan Rodgers.

Where should Celtic look to strengthen?

Speaking to Sky Sports, Big Bad John was asked in which positions Celtic should be looking to strengthen as we near the end of what has been a brilliant season for Celtic with two trophies won and the chance of a domestic treble to come later this month in the Scottish Cup Final against Aberdeen.

“The recruitment team have worked wonders over the years”

Hartson was both emphatic and wide-ranging in his response. He replied: “Every area. If the right type of player comes up, whether it is a centre-back, a winger, a midfielder, or a forward. If they can add that little bit of quality to the quality they have got, I think there is plenty of room to bring players in with the Champions League run they had this year.

“The recruitment team have worked wonders over the years. I could name six or seven players that Celtic have brought in and they will make massive amounts of money on them in terms of how well they have played. For me, Celtic will always look to improve and move forward,” Hartson said.

“He’s got 18 goals and still learning”

As a former Celtic striker of some note, Hartson was also asked about Celtic striker Adam idah who scored at Ibrox on Sunday in the end of season dead-rubber. “He’s got 18 goals and still learning. When he came to Celtic he was a sub for Norwich for a long period. He was out of the team and did well when he arrived on loan.

“Celtic then went in for him thinking he helped them win the league and get over the line the previous season. Some really big goals and he’s got 18 this term with a few more games to go, that is really good return.

“I have been a fan of his since day one”

“I like him, he has pace, powerful and runs in behind. I think naturally the more goals he scores and opportunities he gets he will keep banging in the goals. I have been a fan of his since day one. ”

Idah, like Arne Engels suffers from the price tag Celtic paid for the two players last summer. Idah’s record in a season and a half has been more than satisfactory and Engels has settled in well at Celtic after a big money move and will be a much better player for us next season. Both will actually.

A dreadfully disappointing season for Celtic FC Women

Meanwhile the contrast between Celtic’s men’s and women’s first teams could not be more stark this season as the former chases down a treble with the latter’s season is over and there will be no trophies or even runners up consolation in the SWPL where Celtic are likely to finish fourth.

We took a detailed look at this earlier today and it’s well worth a read, with the link below.
