Birmingham City striker Lyndon Dykes scored his first league goal for Blues against Wrexham last month.

The 29-year-old has also started each of the last three games in League One for Blues, which is the first time he has enjoyed a run in the side like that since his summer move from Queens Park Rangers.

Birmingham spent £1 million on signing the Scotland international from the Rs, and while he hasn't been prolific so far during his time in the Midlands, he is beginning to show the qualities that he can offer.

Dykes is an established striker at Championship level, has more than 40 caps for his country, and offers something different to Jay Stansfield and Alfie May, so if he can continue to produce improved performances between now and the end of the season, his signing will go down as a smart piece of business.

We asked our Birmingham fan pundit, Mike Gibbs, whether he feels as though the signing of Dykes has proven to be a good idea.

"When he signed, I thought it was a great acquisition," said Mike.

"I think shortly after that he had a tough time of it.

"It has taken him a long time to score his first goal, he was in and out of the side, and he had a couple of really poor performances as well, to be honest.

"I think he has played a few on the bounce now, and he has gotten into his rhythm, and I think he is really, really effective.

"I was sorry to see him be taken off on Saturday because, again, I think he was playing really, really well.

"He brings something to the lineup that only Lukas Jutkiewicz can bring, but he is definitely more mobile than Juke, he can cause havoc, and he has got an excellent shot on him - he can score goals.

"I was happy at first, and then questioned the signing, but now he is really starting to prove his worth.

"I am glad that we signed him."

Dykes will be eyeing a return to the Championship

Dykes will no doubt be delighted that he has started to show what he is capable of in a blue shirt, as this is the first time he has played below Championship level since moving to England, and he will definitely be eyeing a return to the second tier.

His quality was there for all to see when he scored an impressive volley against Lincoln City in the FA Cup, and now that he has a few goals under his belt for his new club, he may be able to contribute more during the remainder of the campaign.

He is a player who can be a hugely effective outlet for Chris Davies' side, especially in games that are proving to be slightly more difficult for the title-chasers, so the fact that he seems to have found some form will no doubt be hugely pleasing for the manager as well as himself.

Birmingham currently sit at the top of the League One table, as Dykes and his teammates look to take Blues back into the Championship at the first time of asking.

If Dykes' improved form continues, then they will have an excellent chance of doing exactly that, and the decision to sign him will certainly have proven to be a good one.
