Chelsea icon Gianfranco Zola insists Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford could have achieved much more based on his early promise.
The United academy product made his big breakthrough in 2016 when he was still a mere teenager, before gradually cementing himself as one of the main stars at the club. He also happens to be among the highest earners at Carrington.
But while the England international has often alternated top-notch campaigns with disappointing ones, his Man Utd stint has now hit rock bottom after being omitted from Ruben Amorim’s plans over the club’s last seven fixtures across all competitions.
Therefore, the writing on the wall for the 27-year-old who is now expected to find himself a new club, with the likes of AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund emerging as his most likely destinations, while Barcelona remains his dream move.

Nevertheless, Zola is saddened to see Rashford leave the club without accomplishing what seemed to be his destiny.
“Talking about Rashford is a sore point for me because, ever since he was a kid, I’ve always considered him a strong player, someone capable of making the difference,” said the Italian legend in his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Instead, he disappointed me a bit because he could have given much more. He alternated great seasons, like the one two years ago, with disappointing seasons like the last one. He was quite inconsistent.”
Zola believes the Man Utd outcast has the attributes to make it in Serie A if he were to join Milan, but can’t help but reiterate his disappointment in the player’s meagre EPL accolades.
“He is certainly fast and technically strong. In Italy, he could have a significant impact, but it depends on him. For me, he could have been the Premier League MVP for years and instead he never was.”
