Former Premier League forward Gabriel Agbonlahor named Liverpool ace Caoimhin Keller in his Premier League Team of the Week.
The talkSPORT pundit waxed lyrical about the Republic of Ireland international, who kept a clean sheet in Saturday’s 2-0 win against Aston Villa.
Goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah helped Arne Slot’s side continue their excellent start to the season.
They extended their winning streak to four games in a row, beating Brighton & Hove Albion twice in the Premier League and EFL Cup, along with an emphatic 4-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.
The Reds have also been unbeaten in their last 13 games across all competitions since falling to a 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
The win against Villa cemented Liverpool’s position at the Premier League summit, extending their lead to five points against Manchester City and nine ahead of Arsenal, who both dropped points over the weekend.
Kelleher played a starring role in Liverpool’s comprehensive win, and Agbonlahor was seriously impressed by his performance.
“He’s probably the best second-choice goalkeeper in the world. I thought he was outstanding against Aston Villa,” Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT.
“Some of the saves from the set-pieces, especially first half, were outstanding, and kept Liverpool with that 1-0 lead until Salah got the second late in the second half.
“But I thought he was outstanding, and his distribution was very good as well.”
Kelleher’s clean sheet against Villa was his third in six games across all competitions since replacing first-choice stopper Alisson, who picked up an injury against Crystal Palace back in October.
The Irishman recorded 33 touches, two saves, and two high claims while boasting an 81% pass accuracy.
Alisson is out for six weeks and was expected to return to the fold after November’s international break. But Slot has admitted he’s unsure when the Brazil international will be fit enough to start.
Kelleher will likely continue in his interim role when Liverpool travel to Hampshire to take on Southampton at Saint Mary’s Stadium when club football returns.
