The American international has missed a large chunk of time during the middle of the season with a serious ankle ligament injury, but is now back on the pitch and among the goals for Frank Lampard's side.

Having already hit double-figure goals this season despite that, and having bagged 19 goals and seven assists in 50 total appearances last term, Coventry appear to have a top quality forward on their hands.

They certainly had one in Viktor Gyokeres, who is now one of the most sought-after strikers in world football. But how did his City wages compare with Wright's current earnings?

Using figures from Capology - which must be stressed are an estimate -, Football League World investigates.

Wright has certainly established himself as one of Coventry's star players since his summer 2023 switch from Turkish side, Antalyaspor.

So, is he being paid like one at the Coventry Building Society Arena? Let's find out!

As per Capology, Wright is earning a weekly wage of £25,000. That works out as an annual salary of £1.3m.

Contracted with Coventry until the summer of 2027, Capology also has Wright as earning the same weekly wage packet for the duration of his current Sky Blues contract.

Interestingly, Capology's figures state that he took a relatively small pay cut to sign for Coventry, as he's listed as having been earning £28,867-a-week during the 2022/23 season with Antalyaspor.

One of the best players to pull on a Coventry City shirt in recent times, Gyokeres' departure to Sporting CP in July 2023 was met with huge sighs of relief from the other 23 Championship clubs.

The Swedish international was deadly in the second tier, scoring 21 goals and providing 10 assists in 46 Championship games during the 2022/23 campaign.

Since signing for Portuguese giants Sporting, Gyokeres has already registered back-to-back scoring seasons of 40+ goals in all competitions, and has truly established himself as one of the most prolific centre-forwards on the planet.

But how much was he earning during his two full seasons as a Sky Blues player between 2021-2023? Was it more or less than Wright? Let's take a look!

According to Capology, Gyokeres earned a mere £3,462-a-week during the 2022/23 season, as well as his previous 2021/22 campaign as a permanent City player. That works out as an annual salary of £180,000.

Therefore, Wright is earning just over seven times as much as Gyokeres was, which, with the benefit of hindsight, is remarkable.

Coventry were receiving amazing value for money with Gyokeres, and that's not to say they aren't with Wright either, as his goals could be worth their weight in gold should they secure a place in the Premier League.
