Football League World takes a look at the ex-Rams captain's wage during his time at Pride Park.

Tom Lawrence's time in Scotland looks set to come to an end this summer, with the three-year contract that he signed with Rangers in 2022 expiring in June.

The attacking midfielder, who can also be played out on the left flank, left Derby County following the expiration of his deal as the Rams were relegated to League One in the final weeks of the 2021/22 campaign after entering administration in September 2021.

He spent five years at Pride Park, joining the club for an initial £5m from Leicester City in August 2017 while Gary Rowett was in charge, and he made a strong impression during his time in DE24, and he was handed the captaincy by Wayne Rooney in his final season at the club.

A return to England and the EFL is on the cards for Lawrence once the transfer window opens, and Football League World has taken a look at his wages while he was playing for Derby to see just how much it may cost a team to pay the Wales international.

Lawrence was Derby's top earner during the 2021/22 season

Several Championship and one League One club are interested in signing the 31-year-old this summer, with the Daily Mail reporting that Blackburn Rovers, Burnley, Coventry City, Middlesbrough, West Bromwich Albion and Wrexham all targeting him.

However, he could come at a price, despite being available to sign as a free agent if Rangers do not elect to renew his contract.

According to Capology, Lawrence was Derby's highest earner during his final season at the club, raking in an estimated £30,000-a-week as Wayne Rooney's side were deducted 21 points for entering administration and for admitting to breaches of Profit and Sustainability rules.

Despite the fact that the Rams had this huge penalty, they fought back on the pitch and their ex-number 10 had his best year in black-and-white as he led the team.

He scored 11 goals and registered five assists in 38 league appearances, including two against bitter rivals Nottingham Forest. But the East Midlands outfit were unable to stop the inevitable, and they were relegated with three games left to play.

Derby's uncertain future made it tough for them to offer the likes of Lawrence new deals, and he took the decision to move up to Scotland and join Rangers with European football on offer.

Lawrence's past wages could be off-putting for some of those targeting him

While it has been three years since he was with the Rams, it seems unlikely that his wages would have dropped when he moved north of the border, and he could be an expensive addition for the team who wins the battle for him in the summer.

At 31, he is past the peak of his career and, with his recent injury struggles, there is no doubt that there is a huge amount of risk in signing a player who may have more fitness difficulties in the years to come.

This could be off-putting to some teams, and those who can offer higher wages will be in pole position for the signature of Lawrence, with a move to Burnley perhaps of most interest to him as the Clarets set their sights on an instant return to the Premier League.

Nevertheless, if he is able to keep himself in the team consistently, then the attacking midfielder could be of great use to those pushing at the top of the Championship next season.
