While Manchester United can no longer sanction any winter arrivals for the second half of the term, there’s still the chance for them to offload players to countries where the window is still open.
For example, Turkey’s deadline isn’t until tomorrow, giving them an extra eight days than their European counterparts to sign players, while Brazil has essentially until the end of the month, February 28, to get deals over the line.
In line with that, journalist Jorge Nicola claims Flamengo have set their sights on a late swoop for Brazilian native Casemiro, who hasn’t played in his birth country since he left Sao Paulo for Real Madrid in 2013. Now, almost 12 years later, he could return to finish his career surrounded by his home comforts.
Flamengo have contacted United to try and gauge the prospect of taking the seasoned veteran on loan, and, given the Reds’ desire to offload the out-of-favour midfielder, they’ll presumably include some kind of buy option in the terms that see Casemiro depart permanently in the summer.

The issue, however, is that the third-placed Série A outfit simply cannot afford the player’s extortionate wages, believed to be in the region of £350,000 per week – making him the highest-paid member of United’s squad.
Nicola provided some insight into the ongoing situation, saying (via Bolavip): “I can assure you that Flamengo investigated the player’s situation in the last few days. The English club agree to loan him and help with part of his salary. Filipe Luís would love to count on Casemiro.
“Flamengo understand that, given all the figures, it is a very risky business. Even though United are willing to help with most of the salary, there would still be a very high amount to be paid.”
