The Tigers endured a difficult campaign as they battled relegation, but they ultimately survived on a dramatic final day after picking up a point at Portsmouth, with Luton’s defeat at West Brom condemning the Hatters to the third tier.

Despite that, there has been talk about Selles’ future, with reports claiming that owner Acun Ilicali is considering making another change in the dugout.

David Prutton insists Ruben Selles can bring stability to Hull City

The owner made the decision to sack Liam Rosenior after Hull missed out on the play-offs 12 months ago, and it was a call that clearly backfired.

And, Sky Sports pundit Prutton referenced that when he exclusively discussed Selles’ future with FLW.

He did the job he was brought in to do. Whether you can view that as by virtue of there being three worse teams is a little bit cynical, but the history books only show facts and figures, and they stayed up on goal difference.

To get Hull to safety in the right possible time, as that final day could’ve gone horribly wrong for them, is kudos to them for staying up.

I’m intrigued to know financially what’s available for Selles. Maybe the chance to work with his squad, which he can mould, for a bit longer in pre-season, could help.

What they did last season with Liam Rosenior and bringing in Tim Walter, and not getting the players he wanted, and playing catch-up, didn’t really help them at all. It was the wrong man at the wrong club, and Selles created enough of a positive atmosphere to make sure they were safe.

It would be a bit harsh considering he saved them from relegation, but if Hull want to get back to where they were the season before, it’s got to be aligned management from the top down. I don’t know the ins and outs of what Acun wants. He changed Rosenior because he didn’t like the style of play, but that almost got them relegated.

So, a sensible season of consolidation might be what they’re after, and I can’t see why that wouldn’t happen under Selles.”

Ruben Selles deserves more time to make his mark at Hull City

This would be a bold move from Ilicali, as it clearly didn’t work with Rosenior, and Selles is emerging as a bright, young coach in the game.

It’s very difficult to take over a team mid-season, particularly when there is pressure to get results, and Selles did what he was asked to do by keeping the club in the league.

So, most would agree with Prutton that it would be harsh, and the focus instead should be on backing the boss and reshaping the squad in the summer window.

It remains to be seen whether that happens, but more upheaval by changing the manager doesn’t look as though it will help Hull whatsoever, so it will be interesting to see how it all plays out in the coming days and weeks ahead.
