Inter Milan Vice-President Reacts To Drawing Feyenoord: ‘We Can’t Choose Between Serie A & Champions League, We’ll Try To Reach The Final’ | OneFootball

Javier Zanetti says that Inter Milan “can’t choose” between winning the Serie A title and the Champions League this season.

The Nerazzurri Vice-President spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, after the team drew Feyenoord in the Champions League round of sixteen.

Inter now know the path that’s before them in the Champions League.

Next month, the Nerazzurri will face Feyenoord in a two-legged round of sixteen tie.

Then, the likes of Bayern Munich and Barcelona are among the potential opponents Inter could face on their side of the bracket.

In the meantime, though, there is also Serie A for Inter to worry about.

The Nerazzurri take on Genoa tomorrow evening. Then, the following weekend it will be the massive top-of-the-table clash with Napoli.

Inter have dropped a number of points in the league table in February. That has made the title race appear more fierce than ever.

Zanetti: “Inter Milan Can’t Choose Between Serie A & Champions League”

Looking ahead to the Champions League round of sixteen, Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti said that “Our path has been great so far, but now another phase of the competition begins.”

“Feyenoord are worthy of respect,” Javier Zanetti emphasized. “We saw what they managed to do [against Milan].”

“We’ll prepare for both matches well. But we have the conditions to move on to the next round.”

“A lot will depend on us,” said the Inter Vice-President.

As far as balancing Serie A and the Champions League, Zanetti said that “We can’t choose.”

“We have to aim to go all the way in both competitions.”

“We know what it means to win the Scudetto,” noted the Vice-President. “And then there’s the Champions League where we’re the most recent Italian team to have won it.”

“We’ll try to honour the competition and reach the final as we did two years ago.”

Zanetti acknowledged that “We know how hard it is to compete on both fronts.”

“But our minds are focused on that goal. We can’t choose.”

As far as questions about Inter’s ability to sustain both a Serie A title challenge and Champions League knockout run, Zanetti said “The doubts come from outside, not inside.”

“We know what it means to compete in Italy and Europe,” said Zanetti.

“Then, it’s not easy to stay at your best with so many matches.”

“There are also other difficulties that a team can go through in any given period,” Zanetti added. “But we always give our best.”
