Serie A champions Inter Milan will face a stern test when they play host to Genoa at the iconic Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Sunday, February 23.
With their ambitions to successfully defend their Scudetto, Simone Inzaghi’s men will be determined to bag all three points against Patrick Vieira’s team.
The football betting sites are firmly behind the Nerazzurri to win, however, taking maximum points off the Griffin hasn’t been easy to do, with three of the last four meetings ending in draws.
However, the last 10 meetings at Internazionale have all resulted in victories for Inzaghi’s men, and they’ll aim to continue that dominant streak.
Will Inter Milan prevail and move a step closer to another Scudetto, or will Genoa pull off an unexpected upset? Let’s take a closer look at both teams before making a verdict.
As we gear up for the season’s run-in, Inter Milan find themselves in a two-horse race with Antonio Conte’s Napoli for the Serie A title. The sides are currently neck and neck in the league standings with Inter boasting a better goal difference.
Inzaghi’s men have once again been outstanding this season, recording some emphatic victories in the league, while they are the top scorers in the division, with Marcus Thuram in devasting form and set to break his tally of 13 goals last season.
The Nerazzurri have a squad stacked with talent and serial winners. With the likes of Thuram, Nicolo Barella, Denzel Dumfries, Hakan Calhanoglu, Henrik Mkhitaryan and Lautaro Martinez, Inter Milan is sure to cause Genoa all kinds of problems.
Sitting in 12th position, Genoa isn’t too far from where they finished off last season in 11th place. Their league form has been inconsistent, which is often reflective of their unpredictable performances.
They held Inter to a 2-2 draw on the opening weekend of the 2024/25 season, they also earned a point at AC Milan and beat Udinese and Roma who are above them in the Serie A standings. Yet they lost to Verona and Venezia – two sides who currently sit in the relegation zone.
It remains to be seen which Genoa will show up in Milan on Sunday, but regardless of which side it’ll be, they will have a difficult time against the reigning champions whom they haven’t beaten since 2018 when they had the likes of Andrea Ranocchia and Goran Pandev.
Given their excellent home record against Genoa, we’re confidently backing the Nerazzurri to flex their might and claim maximum points against Vieira’s side in their bid to successfully defend their Serie A crown.
