Inter squandered a two-goal cushion in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Parma, throwing a dent into their Serie A title hopes. What seemed to be another day in the office for Simone Inzaghi’s side turned into a nightmare as they left Stadio Ennio Tardini with a point.
The match started perfectly for Inter as Matteo Darmian beat Zion Suzuki with a well-placed low effort on the near post to open the scoring after just 15 minutes. Though Inzaghi was away from the dugout due to a one-game touchline ban, the Nerazzurri looked determined to post a fourth consecutive league win.
When Marcus Thuram made it 2-0 on the stroke of halftime, not even the most pessimistic Inter fans could’ve expected their side to drop points in Emilia-Romagna. However, fatigue after an exhausting 1-1 draw against Milan in midweek Coppa Italia action seemingly took its toll on the reigning champions in the second half.
Parma cut Inter’s lead by half on the hour mark through Adrian Bernabe’s superb effort from outside the box. Buoyed by the goal, Cristian Chivu’s charges continued to dominate the game and eventually found an equalizer through Jacob Ondrejka. However, Francesco Acerbi’s poor intervention helped Parma level the score.
Without further ado, let’s look at our Inter ratings.
Yann Sommer – 6
His stunning save to deny Dennis Man spared Inter’s early blushes. He could’ve done better for Parma’s first but was powerless for the second as the deflection caught him off guard.
Yann Bisseck – 6
After a near-flawless first half, the German defender lost his composure on and off the ball beyond halftime, resulting in several unforced errors.
Francesco Acerbi – 5.5
Dominant for most of the first half, the veteran center-back ran out of steam and was the main culprit for Parma’s equalizer as he was slow to close down Ondrejka.
Alessandro Bastoni – 7
Inter’s best defender enjoyed a scintillating half at Tardini, neutralizing all Parma’s attacking attempts, but had to come off at halftime as a precaution.
Federico Dimarco – 6
It was a frustrating late afternoon for the Inter talisman as he barely had any influence in attack, while he had several scrappy interventions at the back.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 7
Despite his age, the Armenian remains the focal point of Inzaghi’s set-up. His passing was spot-on and earned him an assist for Thuram’s goal.
Kristjan Asllani – 5.5
Unlike his senior midfield colleague, the Albanian star struggled to gain a foothold in the game and had a few erratic attempts.
Hakan Calhanoglu – 6
Deployed out of his favorite position, the Turk stuttered on the right side of the midfield, failing to impact the play the way he would’ve wanted.
Matteo Darmian – 7
The Italian wingback slotted home a lethal left-footer from an acute angle to break the deadlock but vanished from the pitch ever after. However, he was outstanding in defense.
Lautaro Martinez – 5
Back from a short-term injury, El Toro had a rough game, often looking off the pace while lacking the usual sharpness in front of goal.
Marcus Thuram – 7.5
A constant threat up front, Thuram capped off his lively performance with a well-taken goal that doubled Inter’s lead. His pace and movement caused problems for Parma’s defense.
Carlos Augusto – 5.5
Joaquin Correa – 5
