Vincenzo Italiano admitted that AC Milan got more out of their substitutions in Bologna’s 3-1 defeat on Friday night. However, he made it clear that he won’t accept the same performance on Wednesday evening.

The Bologna manager decided to rest quite a few players last night, amid the upcoming Coppa Italia final, but the star Riccardo Orsolini at least played from start (and scored). In the second half, when he did bring on some of his starters, Milan managed to complete the comeback.

Speaking to Sky Italia after the game, as transcribed by MilanNews, Italiano expressed his disappointment over the second half and how his substitutes performed. Unlike Milan, he stated that they didn’t have any effect on the game.

On the outcome of the game…

“The key to the match was our substitutions and theirs. Usually ours have an impact, but it only happened for the opponent. We were in the middle of the game, we created the foundations for a second goal and then 15 minutes of blackout arrived. It shouldn’t have happened.

“I thought I’d give energy with new players, I hoped to continue the course of the match that I liked at that point. It’s a shame we didn’t manage it. We will analyse it because on Wednesday, a different management will be needed.”

You are an expert on finals, what will Bologna have to do on Wednesday?

“It’s clear that it is a match of enormous importance, we could make history. It would be the icing on the cake for our journey. I’m convinced that we will not fail in our attention and concentration, but we know we are facing great champions”.

Wednesday’s game is scheduled for 21:00 CEST and will be played in Rome, at Stadio Olimpico. It will be a completely different game, of course, but the fact that Milan won yesterday will surely give them a big confidence boost.
