CF Montreal have made three more additions this off-season, and have done so in typical CF Montreal fashion. Montreal will never be one of the highest spending clubs within MLS (or ever even come close to it). With that, this front office will always look to find ways to bring in players at a more “discounted” way.
Montreal have done this by adding two attacking players and a midfielder for 2025. First, CF Montreal have signed free agent striker Prince Owusu who is coming off of a tenure with fellow Canadian club Toronto FC. Toronto FC will receive $175,000 in GAM and potential for another $75,000 in conditional GAM for still having his first rights of refusal. The 28 year old German striker arrived to MLS not too long ago from the 2.Bundesliga. Since his arrival to MLS, Owusu has scored 12 goals and 5 assists in roughly 2,400 minutes played in total for Toronto FC. He now joins a striker core of; Giacomo Vrioni, Kwadwo Opoku, Jules-Anthony Vilsaint, and Sunusi Ibrahim.
Also joining the attack is 18 year old attacker Hennadii Synchuk who arrives from Metalist Kharkiv in the Ukrainian 2nd division on a U22 Initiative deal. The current Ukrainian youth international has represented his nation at the U17, U18, U19, and U23 levels. This season for Metalist Kharkiv, Synchuk has 1 goal scored in 467 minutes.
The final move comes in the signing of central midfielder Victor Loturi from Ross County in the Scottish Premier League. Loturi is a 23 year old Canadian who has 1 cap for his national team. He won a Canadian Premier League regular season title with Cavalry FC before being signed by Ross County during the 2022/2023 European season. This season for Ross County, Loturi has 1 assist in roughly 700 minutes played.
I don’t expect any of these three signings to come in playing major starting roles for Laurent Courtois side in 2025, but, these are some pieces that could provide some crucial depth for a club looking to get back into the success column sooner rather than later. The goal for CF Montreal in 2025 has to be a Canadian Championship title run and to qualify for the playoffs.
